John is a sought after inspirational speaker on topics related to Family Business. He is currently the founding partner and president of “Family Enterprise Solutions”, a management consulting and training organization through which he has emerged as a widely acknowledged expert on family & closely held business. He is also the author of The Family Business Doctor: Ensuring the Long-Term Health of Your Business Family, which has received acclaim for its ability to communicate the deepest issues facing closely held firms in a hopeful and constructive manner. John’s most recent book, The Hallman Legacy: Impact of the Hallman Family In Waterloo Region arrives in Fall 2022.

As a communications specialist, John’s workshops are noteworthy for their creativity, humour, and ability to relate effectively to intergenerational audiences. John helps family firms maximize their advantages through a variety of ways: serving as a director or external advisor for family boards; coaching key family and non-family executives; and quarterbacking multi-generational succession planning and implementation.  John founded The Centre For Family Business affiliated with the University of Waterloo, one of the first in Canada.
